zola: starting a blog
I launched Zola to start a fresh blog that embodies the Japanese concept of shibui
A few months ago, I launched a small personal blog with just a handful of posts, inspired by minimalism. This approach echoes the Japanese concept of shibui—simple beauty. A shibui object (shibusa) seems straightforward yet harbors subtle details that harmonize simplicity with complexity. A minimalist website should embody shibui through careful typography, generous white space, and high-quality text.
With this in mind, I built the blog by hand using only HTML and CSS, served via nginx. I wanted to offer a quiet space amid the clamor of dynamic sites.
Life shifted. Maintenance grew difficult, the server was neglected, and eventually I shut it down.
This year, I chose to begin again.
I started a conversation with Grok. It suggested Zola, a Rust-based static site generator, and so the journey resumed.
